Now since I was a little kid I have always grown up remembering someone that uses a fountain pen. It is a very beautiful and elegant pen that writes in very clear and concise . Most people think that fountain have been present in our society for a few hundred years but in reality fountain pens have been in use for a very long time before that. The first recorded historical use of fountain pens dated way back into the 900's AD and were used by the Caliph of Egypt who was getting a bit frustrated because the pens that they currently had in use were always staining is clothes and his hands so he demanded that his people make him a pen that would not stain in this way. The results of all of their hard work showed up in a very new kind of pen called the fountain pen or the reservoir pen as it was originally called back then. This new kind of pen delivered the ink from the body of the pen into the nib by making use of gravity and its capillary action. The first official patent for fountain pens came in 1827 in France and it didn't arrive in the United States until the 1850s. It took about 30 years to catch on but by the 1880s fountain pens started to become mass produced. There were a handful of companies that were mass-producing the fountain pen back then but the company that became the industry leader in fountain pens was Waterman and Wirt which was based in New York. This company became so successful at mass-producing fountain pens that it stayed the industry leader until the early 1920s.

Fountain pens are great gifts for many occasions ranging from Christmas holidays, Easter, birthdays and graduations. They are so elegantly made and constructed that the people who receive fountain pens as gifts only use them for the fun of it or for special occasions.

Vintage fountain pens actually have a great market for collectors and most people that are admirers of these fountain pens collect them the same way that I would collect a vintage baseball cards. There is also a market out there for fountain pen nibs since these were also parts that were exclusively made and were not really mass-produced until recent times. what makes Fountain pen ink so special is that it doesn't smear like most types of ink and it almost seems to have a class of royalty to its writing style.
